This is a compensated review from BlogHer and Fage.
When I was approached by BlogHer to receive and review a free case of FAGE Total Greek Yogurt, I almost jumped up and down in excitement! You see, I’ve been devoted to FAGE Greek Yogurt for over a year now and had already been planning to write a blog post about it. The free case of yogurt was just an added bonus!
So what’s so great about FAGE Total Greek Yogurt? Lots of things! But what’s most important to me is that the yogurt is 100% natural and tastes amazing! FAGE is made without any extra ingredients, additives, preservatives, thickeners or stabilizers. Plain yogurt should basically have only two ingredients: milk and live active yogurt cultures. That’s it! And that’s all you’ll get when you eat FAGE Total yogurts.
I was so excited when the Fed Ex guy arrived with my box full of ice-packed yogurt! Although I buy containers of plain FAGE weekly at Trader Joe’s, I had never tasted any of the flavored varieties. I opened the box to find samples of lowfat (2%) Honey, Peach, Cherry, and Strawberry-flavored FAGE as well as a few containers of the plain, nonfat yogurt. SCORE!

Now first of all, let me tell you a little bit about Greek-style yogurt. You probably already know that it is thicker and creamier than regular yogurt, but perhaps you don’t know why. Greek-style yogurt is strained to remove much of the watery whey. This concentrates the milk solids and results in a thick, luxurious yogurt that is packed with protein. Now, if the yogurt is made from whole milk, the end product is also filled with an outrageous amount of fat! Full fat Greek-style yogurt is absolutely delicious, but should certainly be more of an occasional indulgence than an every day snack.
But this is where FAGE Total 2% and 0% come in.
FAGE has managed to create lowfat and nonfat Greek-syle yogurts that are creamy, delicious and indulgent with tons of protein and little to no fat! I am not a non-fat yogurt girl so my favorite is the FAGE Total 2% yogurt. One cup (8oz) of FAGE Total 2% has only 150 calories, 4.5 grams of fat (3g saturated), and a whopping 20 grams of protein!! And the best part? It is so creamy and delicious, it feels like you are eating something sinful! Seriously, this is the only yogurt I will buy now. FAGE Total 2% has ruined all other yogurts for me!
And for those of you who prefer something completely nonfat, the FAGE Total 0% is pretty good as far as nonfat yogurts go. One cup of FAGE Total 0% contains 120 calories, 0 grams fat, and 20 grams of protein. While I can eat the 2% yogurt by itself, I find that the nonfat has a slightly strange flavor (like I said, I’m not a nonfat girl!) so I like to pair it with a drizzle of honey or some fresh fruit. And I definitely feel that this is the best nonfat Greek-style yogurt out there! I’ve tasted just about every brand of yogurt that’s available in California and there are no nonfat yogurts that even come close! And yes, I have tried the Trader Joe’s brand of Greek yogurt. It might be cheaper, but it just doesn’t compare to FAGE. It really doesn’t.
And I’m not kidding when I say I’ve tried just about every brand of yogurt out there. When we lived in Europe, I fell in love with the delicious plain yogurts available there. They were made without any extra ingredients, stabilizers or preservatives and for the first time I started craving and snacking on plain yogurt. When we moved back to the states, I had a really hard time finding yogurt that compared to what I had grown accustomed to eating.
I set out on a quest to find the best yogurt available here and was disappointed to find that almost everything had additives and stabilizers in it. But I tried them all anyway. And I was disappointed over and over again. And just when I had resigned myself to start making my own yogurt at home, I discovered FAGE. It tasted so great that it seemed almost too good to be true. And I haven’t bought anything else since! And although I still want to try making my own yogurt someday, I really don’t want to stop eating my FAGE!
So I’ve talked a lot about the plain varieties of FAGE Total yogurts, but what about those fruit flavors? It’s true that I had never purchased any of the fruit-flavored varieties, and that’s because I was afraid that they would be too sweet or artifical tasting and quite frankly I didn’t want to ruin my love affair with my favorite Greek-style yogurt. But how wrong I was!

I love every single flavor! The yogurt containers come with a cute little fruit cup attached to the side so you can decide whether to mix the fruit into the yogurt or just add a little bit of fruit flavor to each bite. The fruit, although definitely sweetened with sugar, tastes like real fruit! And although the ingredient list does get a bit longer for the fruit-flavored yogurts, it’s certainly shorter than most store-bought fruit flavored yogurts!
For example, here is the ingredient list for FAGE Total 2% with Strawberry: Grade A pasteurized Skimmed Milk and Cream, Live Active Yogurt Cultures, Strawberries, Sugar, Corn Starch, Strawberry Juice Concentrate, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Natural Flavor, Xantham.
And here are some quick nutrition facts for one 5.3 oz. container of fruit-flavored FAGE Total 2%: 130 calories, 2.5 grams fat (1.5g saturated), 18 grams total carbohydrate, 10 grams protein.
Not too bad for something that tastes like an indulgent dessert! In fact, I’ve already purchased some more of the fruit-flavored FAGE and I’ve been using it to satisfy the after-dinner sweet tooth I’ve recently developed. Trust me, eating a container of FAGE is a better choice than a bowl of ice cream! And quite frankly, I feel just as satisfied.
Now I know that many of you are already as addicted to FAGE as I am. I see it in your shopping carts, I’ve read your blog posts and I’ve heard you talking about it on twitter. But what I want to know is, what’s your favorite way to eat it? I love eating it both plain and drizzled with honey. But it’s also wonderful topped with fresh fruit…especially chopped mangoes! I also like to add a handful of granola when I’m feeling a little crunchy.
Greek yogurt is also great to use in place of sour cream or mayonnaise when you want to lighten things up without losing a creamy texture. I use it often in dips and dressings and Greek yogurt is a must if you want to make a great tzatziki. Once you start using it, you’ll find the possibilities are endless!
So have I convinced you to try FAGE yet? Would it help if you got your own free case of FAGE delivered to your door? I thought so!
BlogHer is giving away a case of FAGE yogurt every single day for the next 30 days! SERIOUSLY! All you have to do is leave a comment sharing your thoughts about FAGE and you could have the chance to win a case for yourself! Just head over to BlogHer now to find out the details!
And to learn even more about FAGE products, they have a wonderful interactive Web site that will tell you anything you need to know. In fact, why don’t you head over there now?
And one last thing…
If you’re going to eat FAGE Greek yogurt, you need to learn to pronounce it! No, it doesn’t rhyme with ‘rage.’ FAGE is pronounced “fah-yeh.” Now say it aloud with me…FAH - YEH!
Enjoy!

Greek yogurt is so superior it should be called the food of the gods.
Never had the opportunity to try Fage yogurt, but if you want completely natural delicious yogurt just the way you like it, you should try making it yourself. Preparation takes only minutes and the options are endless. And you will never get it fresher. It’s easy. I could give you links to “how to”, but hey, we all know how to use Google.
Fage is so delicious. It’s so expensive here though that I only get it on special occasions. one of my favorite ways to eat it is mixed with a tiny bit of lemon zest and some sugar and spooned over sliced berries.
I love Fage! I eat the 0% and don’t miss the fat at all. I’ve actually been eating it for breakfast this week with cut-up nectarines and a few drizzles of honey. Something about honey and greek yogurt… yum!
I agree, Fage is the best! I love their yogurt and always buy the 0%. No idea how they get it to be so creamy without fat, but it’s delicious!
I LOVE the 0% and the individuals with fruit! I get the ones with honey and put the yogurt in a parfait with fresh berries a sprinkle of granola and some of the honey - YUM! I love it!
I love the honey Fage!! Thanks for the pronunciation heads up…I had no idea!! Though I have to admit…it will tough remembering it is pronounced differently!!
Speaking of Fage yogurt, check out my post on my blog from a few months ago:

I haven’t had the opportunity to try Fage, but have been making my own Greek style yogurt for years using my Yogourmet machine. I use 2% milk and add in 1 1/2 cups of skim milk powder to increase the milk solids. Then after it makes a lovely thick yogurt, we strain it overnight with cheesecloth in the fridge. We called it yogurt cheese, but reading about Greek yogurt, it’s exactly the same. If you strain it for longer, you get a thick cheesy consistancy that is fantastic for dips and as a sour cream substitute. It can have a very tangy taste depending on how long you leave your original yogurt to process.
I make a version of Starbucks Yogurt Parfaits with Fage that is much cheaper and has much less sugar than the Starbucks version. That’s my favorite way to eat the stuff.
I’m WILD for Fage. My mom introduced it to me last summer with fresh blueberries and honey and I’ve been in LOVE with it ever since!
Greek yogurt is sooo good! I love the honey Fage the best : )
I’m a FAGE 0% lover - started ordering it by the case through my local CSA since sometimes the local supermarket runs out. Besides the usual fruit and honey stir ins, I like to mix it with Pineapple salsa and some black beans for a simple lazy person’s lunch. And I’ll pop a small container in the freezer during dinner - for dessert, I top it with some malted milk powder and peanut butter. Yummy!
I just love it, love it, love it.
I agree . . . FAGE is absolutely the best! I first learned of it while reading “The Truth About Beauty” by Kat James. She advocates a natural approach to health and beauty . . . basically from the inside out . . . and she recommends the full fat version of FAGE for a number of reasons. I have it every morning with either fresh or (defrosted) frozen berries. It’s so delicious and so satisfying. The 2% version is also good and when I can’t find the full fat one at Trader Joe’s, I go with the 2%. I love DivaLinda’s suggestion about freezing it for dessert!! I’m going to try that tonight!
Love Fage but had no idea it was pronounced that way. Thanks
Oh, I love their yogurt too. I just eat it w/ honey, or occasionally w/ honey and black pepper.
I first tasted greek yogurt in Greece where I ordered a snack: yogurt with honey—I could not believe it was yogurt! Yaourti me meli–phonetically of course. Not sure how you would spell that in Greek
So once I got back to the US, I started buying FAGE back in 1996. I started with the regular one and then tried the 2% and non fat and was amazed at how well they preserved the creaminess without sacrificing taste and texture. I confess I often forget the simplicity of yogurt and that if it’s good AND natural you really don’t need anything else to it. A touch of honey maybe but you almost don’t want to pollute the yogurt…
Fage rocks! I love it!
Once you try this yogurt you will never go back. It will hold your spoon straight up and last longer! Creamy finish.
What do you think of Chobani? I’m gonna give Fage a try…. I saw it in the store, but a friend had raved on and on about Chobani. I got some to make homemade tzatziki and I wasn’t impressed with it, really. I have never tried straight up greek yogurt, so I just wondered how you guys thought Fage was compared to Chobani?
Wow, I was also spoiled on the abundant and fresh dairy options in Europe. It’s fascinating we can’t get such things here, even in California, a place that prides itself on having the freshest, well, everything. I love using FAGE in cake recipes. It makes them so super moist and delicious.
I eat the plain with a sprinkle of brown sugar on top making a delicious caramel crust. yum!
I’ve never tried this but it looks Yummy!! I bet it would be great in a protein smoothie! I’ve never seen it here in Canada but I will be sure to keep my eyes open now!

I got away from flavored yogurts a long time ago because some of it was just too loaded with sugar. I am terribly addicted to tzatziki though this brand deserves a try. The Greek style is definitely a superior product.
Thanks for all the comments, everyone!
Leslie, I’ve never heard of Chobani but I have tried a few other brands of Greek yogurt and nothing I’ve tried compares to FAGE. If I see Chobani around here, I’ll give it a try to see how it compares!
I’ve been meaning to try Fage, everytime I go to Trader Joe’s. Now I have to.
This is the only dairy product I allow myself to eat. Yum!
I LOVE Fage! We use it exclusively for our yogurt ice cream recipes since I discovered it. So, so so yummy! I’m so sad whenever I’m in Canada because I can’t seem to find it.
I love Fage! It tastes delicious!
FAGE rocks~!
I found it about a year ago and haven’t looked back since.
The creamiest yougurt in the world..and so very good for me too.
Hard to believe the 0% is really 0%.
I have to fight to keep it in the refridgerator. Yummy~
FAGE is really good. I eat it when I get nostalgic for the French yogurt they can’t sell here.
I used to be able to get FAGE sheep’s milk yogurt here in Texas, but no more. Any idea where I could find it?
I absolutely love Fage yogurt. I love the honey one especially. I will have to try the 2% and 0% (which I can’t quite imagine).
Paul: Sorry, I’m not sure where you can find it in Texas, perhaps you can contact the FAGE people through their web site? http://fageusa.com/#/contact/
Fage is awesome. Thanks for sharing!
I finally was able to find a local source for Greek yogurt, but the variety is limited and expensive. All the praise you stated for it is true. Thanks for educating people about it!
My mother used to make homemade yogurt when I was little, and I miss it so much. Greek yogurt comes much closer to her yogurt - at least my memory’s version of it - than American yogurt…creamy, thick, and delicious! Thanks for sharing!
OK, I was saying it wrong, lol! Sounds delicious though! What a great review! I think you just sold their product! =)
I LOVE fage yogurt. I eat it for breakfast regularly, and use it as a substitute for creme fraiche and heavy cream in many recipes. In fact, last night I used it in place of heavy cream in a chicken casserole, and also mixed with a little srircha as a dipping sauce for steamed artichokes!
Without a doubt this is the best yogurt (FAGE) I have ever had and I have been making my own for years but this is the best and I really wish I could make it as well as they do, because I have to drive 120 round trip to buy it and I do so once a month. It is higher in protein than most yogurts (20 grams a cup), almost twice as much!! And it has the best favor and texture I have ever had an any yogurt.
I use it in cooking, as a snack or a meal. Wonderful with no sugar fruit spreads and and added to tacos or any dish you might have sour cream on.
Best
Joy
Great post, I don’t know if I can find FAGE around here. I’ll look. Thanks.
I like the Greek yogurt too. I agree that it is very natural and tastes amazing.
I love FAGE but have never seen the side pack with fruit - that looks delicious. What a great idea!
If you have the opportunity, try Icelandic skyr. Very similar and more creamy in my opine.
Love greek yogurt! and it’s great to learn how to pronounce it, too
although (not to be a party pooper) but have you tried Oikos yogurt? OMG. Blows the other ones out of the water!
Lou: I’ve never seen Skyr, but I googled it and found this post about it on Serious Eats: http://www.seriouseats.com/2008/12/skyr-icelandic-yogurt-beating-greek-yogurt-at-its-own-game.html Sounds great, but not sure if it’s available on the west coast. Thanks for the tip!
Sirena: I actually have tried Oikos, and it wasn’t bad. But I really do prefer FAGE!
I also love Fage yogurt! I enjoy eating it plain or with nuts and fruit for breakfast, and spread on whole wheat toast with strawberry preserves as a snack. My favorite way to use it though is as a substitute for sour cream in recipes; it produces the same end result but is so much healthier!
Maria: I’ve used it in baked goods several times, and it works great!
I just recently tried it and think the flavored ones taste like a slightly cheesy ice cream, that’s how rich and delicious they are
